Techscaler Japan

We’re opening applications for a ten-day programme in Tokyo in April 2026, designed for Techscaler businesses which have already begun engaging with the market in Japan. This programme supports you to move beyond initial conversations, experience Japan’s business culture first-hand, build on existing connections, and establish a strong, credible presence within the ecosystem.


What this programme is about


This programme consists of ten days on location in Japan, as well as pre-departure activities and follow-up long-term impact reporting, designed to help you:

  • Understand Japan’s business culture and commercial environment
  • Strengthen relationships with industry partners, buyers, and innovation leaders
  • Shape a clear and credible strategy for your Japan market expansion
  • Build connections and explore opportunities enabled by attending the SusHI Tech 2026 conference 


Why Japan?

Japan is a globally unique market with strong demand for innovative, high-quality technology solutions and talent. For tech businesses who have already begun engaging with Japan, being on the ground is essential to building trust, deepening relationships, and understanding how commercial decisions are really made. 

Timed around SusHi Tech 2026, the trip combines structured support with participant-led activity, giving you the context, access, and momentum needed to take the next meaningful step in your Japan expansion journey.


Who is this for?



We’re looking for up to 10 ambitious participants who meet the following profile:

  • Founders, co-founders or senior leaders 
  • Revenue-generating business (at least £1k+/month; flexible for regulated sectors)
  • Have existing customers in, paid pilots from, or investment from Japan or has at least already started engaging with Japanese partners and can demonstrate meaningful traction
  • We are particularly interested in applications from businesses operating within energytech, medtech or robotics.

If you don’t think you meet all of these criteria but believe this opportunity is the right next step for your company, we still encourage you to apply.

You must be a Techscaler member and able to represent both your company and Scotland’s tech ecosystem professionally. Please note that you can’t apply on behalf of someone else.



Key dates

  • Applications open: Monday 9 February
  • Applications close: Monday 23 February at 9am
  • Panel review: Monday 23 February (please note we will not be able to accept any late applications past 9am that morning)
  • Outcome sent: Wednesday 25 February
  • Pre-departure activities:
    - Online cohort mixer - 11th March - 12-12.45pm
    - Online pre-departure workshop - 25th March - 12-1pm
    - Mentorship and information sessions - throughout March and April, exact dates tbc
  • Travel: Friday 17 April → Thursday 30 April
  • Post-programme: Impact surveys post trip, at 6 months and 12 months

What’s expected from you

  • Attend all Techscaler-arranged pre-departure activities
  • Complete your own independent outreach and schedule your own meetings ahead of time
  • Engage fully throughout the week in-market
  • Complete post-programme reporting and follow-up activities
