We're thrilled to announce the official launch of our newest Techscaler hub in Dumfries, in partnership with Midsteeple Quarter, marking an exciting expansion of our mission to support Scotland's tech startup ecosystem beyond the central belt.
Completing Our Scotland-Wide Network
The launch of our Dumfries hub represents a significant milestone in our mission to support tech startups across all of Scotland. Through a dynamic partnership with Midsteeple Quarter, we've established our newest base within The Standard, a community-owned flagship building right in the heart of Dumfries High Street.
This addition completes our comprehensive network of Techscaler hubs spanning the entire country:
- Highlands & Islands: Wasps Inverness Creative Academy
- North East Scotland: ONE Tech Hub in Aberdeen
- Dundee & Tayside: The Abertay cyberQuarter
- Central Scotland: CodeBase Stirling
- Glasgow & West: Glasgow Eagle Lab
- Edinburgh & Lothians: CodeBase Edinburgh
- South of Scotland: In partnership with Hometown Hubs (and now our new Dumfries location)
Each hub serves as a vital base for startup community activity, offering everything entrepreneurs need to develop their ideas and connect with the local tech ecosystem – from desks, chairs, and monitors to seating areas, reliable wifi, and many with dedicated event spaces and cafes.
Our Techscaler hubs combine both dedicated premises (like our Edinburgh and Stirling locations) and co-located spaces within our partners' facilities, ensuring we can adapt to each region's unique needs and opportunities. Each area benefits from a dedicated Community Manager who collaborates closely with the local community to ensure Techscaler meets the unique needs of its ecosystem, alongside a Head of Regional Partnerships who engages local partners to foster meaningful connections and identify opportunities for local founders.
The new Dumfries hub features affordable hot-desking facilities designed specifically for startup entrepreneurs, creative professionals, and tech workers who need flexible workspace solutions. Whether you're a solo founder developing your next big idea or a growing team looking for collaborative space, our Dumfries hub offers half-day and full-day booking options to suit your needs.
Why Dumfries, Why Now?
"Partnering with Midsteeple Quarter is a tremendous opportunity for us to grow our work in Dumfries and throughout the whole region. There is so much potential locally to develop this into a thriving town centre hub," explains Sarah-Jane Burns, Head of Regional Partnerships for South of Scotland at CodeBase.
For over a decade, CodeBase has been creating tech and creative communities through spaces that serve as more than just offices – they become innovation hubs where ideas are exchanged, connections are forged, and startups find their feet. Our Dumfries location continues this tradition while bringing the full power of our Techscaler programme to the south of Scotland.
Supporting Scotland's Tech Ecosystem
The Techscaler programme, delivered with support from the Scottish Government, is designed to create, develop, and scale-up tech startups that contribute to a healthier, wealthier, and more sustainable society. By establishing a presence in Dumfries, we're ensuring that geographic location doesn't limit access to the resources, networks, and support that emerging tech companies need to thrive.
This expansion aligns perfectly with our belief that innovation can happen anywhere. The atmosphere and connections fostered in coworking environments have proven invaluable for many of our portfolio companies, and we're excited to bring this same energy to Dumfries.
More Than Just Workspace
Our partnership with Midsteeple Quarter represents a shared vision of revitalising town centres through enterprise and innovation. Jakob Kaye, Midsteeple Quarter's enterprise manager, puts it perfectly: "We very much see our enterprise innovation hub as being the catalyst for other benefits, which will ultimately enhance our community and benefit local businesses."
The space functions as what Sarah-Jane describes as "a market square for an exchange of ideas and innovation" – a place where the local tech and creative community can come together, collaborate, and grow.
